Rising through the ranks
This National Apprenticeship Week we’re celebrating the fantastic successes and stories of Encore apprentices throughout the years. We want to help generate a conversation around apprenticeships and highlight why they are so important.
In this blog we interview one of our recent graduates, Machine Adjuster Jonathan Ellison, from Gateshead who joined Encore Envelopes in 2016 as an apprentice – and we liked him so much, we kept him!
People are Encore’s key resource and we’re always keen to nurture the next generation.
We currently employ nine apprentices and, in 95% of cases, we offer them a permanent role at the end of it – a happy ending for all concerned. The apprentice gets all the benefits of working for a respected, established company with a wealth of experienced people on board, while we get a member of staff who knows the ropes and has been trained to our own very high standards.
Jonathan’s Level 3 apprenticeship in general engineering lasted four years, and we were delighted to be able to offer him a permanent role upon completion.
He told us: “I really enjoy working at Encore and an apprenticeship was a great way to learn a trade while getting paid at the same time. The apprenticeship gave me the opportunity to understand all about the role of a machine adjuster, as well as getting so much invaluable hands-on experience. I’d recommend an apprenticeship to anyone, and my advice would be to learn as much as possible from the experienced team to help you progress.”
Operations Director Mark Eyeington added: “Apprenticeships are a valuable way for young people to learn vital skills, as well experiencing the working environment. We have run apprenticeships at Encore for 20 years. We have had great success in training young people and a number of senior staff started with us as apprentices. I’d like to thank Jonathan for all his hard work and wish him all the best for his future career at Encore.”
