The importance of recycling

Sustainability is high on the government’s agenda in the packaging industry – it’s never been more important for businesses to talk openly about their commitment to reducing the environmental impact of processes.

Here at Encore we acknowledge the importance of recycling and have already made great progress in reducing the waste we produce – did you know, we increased our recycling by 13 per cent between 2017 and 2018?

So, what are the key benefits of recycling?

  • Reduction of waste sent to landfills and incinerators, lowering these waste deposits will greatly decrease the build-up of harmful greenhouse gases
  • Less reliance to refine and process raw materials, helping to tackle climate change
  • The protection of ecosystems and wildlife – reducing the destruction of natural habitats and deforestation to guarantee the future of resources

We understand that we can have an impact by utilising the benefits of recycling and we aim to continue to increase our efforts year on year.

Through the adoption of the Waste Hierarchy Principle, our waste reduction efforts start right at the beginning with the purchasing of our materials; we identify any opportunities we can to prevent waste through the entire manufacturing process.

From paper and board size optimisation to the sole use of only water-based inks and glues, we have built a process that means 100 per cent of any waste that we do generate is recycled for future use.
